Day 1 - Arrive Mumbai

Upon your arrrival at the Mumbai Internationalairport, a reception will be held at the airport while you wait for transfer to your hotel. Mumbai is the financial capital of India andthe country’s largest metropolis with over 18 million residents.

Day 2 - Mumbai - Ahmedabad

After breakfast you will have a halfday to explore Mumbai. The most important sights to visit are thegateway of India--built for George V’s visit during in 1911 in thecity area of Colaba-- the Victoria terminus (VT)--one of the railwaystations of the city (world heritage site) built in 1887--the Princeof Wales museum, the Crawford Market, the Dhobi Ghats, the "laundry"of Mumbai, the Mahalaxmi temple, the Marine Drive, the bank street,promenade Mumbai which at its northern end are the Chowpatty Beach,hanging gardens and the Malabar hills.

Afteryour busy afternoon you will transfer to the Mumbai airport for yourflight to Ahmedabad where you’ll be transferred to your hotel foran overnight stay.

Day 3 - Ahmedabad - Palitana - Bhavnagar

In the morning you willtravel to Palitana where you can admire the holy mountain Shatrunjayahome to 836 Jain temples and more than 10,000 statues built duringthe 15thand 16thcenturies. The finely chiseled marble relief and sculptures as wellas columns and pillars represented the Jain’s abilities and highculture. Next stop is the harbour city Bhavnagar whichtoday is themain trade center for textile and other products from Gujarat. You’llalso visit the temple Takhteshwar, whichlies on a hill overlookingthe beautiful city and the bay of Cambay. Your last visit of the daywill be the old town Darbargadh with its architecturally interestinghouses and the lively Bazaar. You then retire to your hotel for anovernight stay in Bhavnagar.

Day 4 - Bhavnagar - Diu

After breakfast you will drive to Diu. LikeDaman and Goa, until 1961 Diu was a Portuguese colony. Diu ispolitically no part of Gujarat, but rather it is administeredtogether with Daman by the central government in Delhi as a "unionTerritory". Diu comprises the island Diu (around 6 miles--13kilometers-- long and 1.5 miles - 3 kilometers- wide) and two smallenclaves on the mainland. The city Diu lies at the eastern point ofthe island, sandwiched between the old city wall and the fort. Thecity has around 38,000 inhabitants. The Portuguese influence can beseen through its architecture. Out of the three Catholic churches,only one (St. Paul) is being preserved for its original purpose. Thetwo other serve as a museum (St. Thomas) and as a hospital (St.Francis of Assisi). Once you are transferred to your hotel, you willhave the rest of the day free to rejoice in the untouched, white sandbeaches and the turquoise blue sea of Diu. You will stay overnight in Diu.

Day 5 - Diu

On day 5 you will discover the tropicalparadise of Diu. You can stroll through the province villages, visitthe fort built by the Portuguese, one of the God Chandika dedicatedtemple as well as the St. Thomas-Church with its museum. Beforeleaving Diu, enjoy the white sand beaches and warm blue waters of theIndian Ocean. You will also enjoy some of the finest Indian cuisineat your hotel where you will stay overnight.

Day 6 - Diu - Somnath - Sasan Gir National Park

After breakfast you will drive to the Sasan Gir national park. On the way,you will visit the famous temple of Somnath. The legend says thetemple of Somnath was built by Gods, once out of gold or silver, onceout of wood or stone. During the 11th century an afghan prince calledMahmud of Gahzni plundered the gold and silver from the temple, anddestroyed the city. Later the Muslims destroyed the temple. In 1706the Mughal king Aurangzeb, began reconstruction of the temple whichlasted through the Hindus. In 1950 the temple was worked on again torestore itsold style. The temple is the place of one of the 12 holyshrines of Shiva, one of the most important Gods in Hinduism. Aftervisiting Somnath, you will ontinue your drive to Sasan Gir NationalPark. Upon your arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. In theafternoon, you will take a short jeep Safari through the nationalpark, a nature preserve for lions, leopard, Sambar-deer, jackal andhyenas. This is the only national park where you can see theremaining Asiatic lions in their natural setting. You will then eturnto your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 7 - Sasan Gir National Park

In the morning you’ll leave to start your afternoon jeep safari in theSasan Gir national park.

Day 8 - Sasan-Gir-National park - Junagadh - Gondal

Afte rbreakfast you’ll drive to Gondal. This trip leads you far into thepast, into the year 250 BC. On the way you’ll visit Junagadh, whichlies in the interior of the peninsula Kathiawar at thefoot of a3400-foot (1100 kilometer) high volcano. The story of Junagadh goesback to the period before Christ into the 4th century, when it wasruled by the first emperor of the Mauryadynastie, Chandragupta.During 319 BC the Uperkot fort (upper fort) was erected. Within thisgigantic fort, you will see among other things an old mosque, twoBaolis (stairways wells) and Buddhist caves that were chopped 1500years ago into the rock.Onthe way to the Girnar-mountain, you will see the Ashoka-inscriptionstruck into a granite block during the 3rd century BC. TheGirnar-mountain with its impressing temples and shrines is among theholyest sites of the Jains. During the late afternoon, you willarrive in Gondal and be transferred to your hotel for an overnightstay.

On the way to the Girnar-mountain, you see the Ashoka-inscription struck into a granite block out of the 3rd century BC, which lets recognize, that the mountain landscape counted already at that time as a religious center. The Girnar-mountain with its impressing temples and shrines is among the holy sites of the Jains. At the late afternoon, you reach Gondal. Overnight stay in Gondal.

Day 9 - Gondal - Ahmedabad

After breakfast, you will check out from the hotel and leave for yourGondal excursion. Here you will see the Orchard and Riverside palacebuilt during the 19thcentury and the Naulakha Darbargadh palace of 17thcentury famous for its filigree stonemason work. You’ll thendriveto Ahmedabad where you will be transferred to your hotel for anovernight stay.

Day 10 - Excursion to Champaner

After breakfast you will travel to Champaner. The archeological parkChampaner-Pavagadh is the only world heritage site in Gujarat(India), which are prehistoric sites. You can see a fort on hill,which was built by the kings of an early Hindu capita, and remnantsof the state Gujarat of the 16thcentury. You can see there palaces, religious buildings, residenceplaces built during the 8thto14thcentury,and the Kalikamata-temple on the Pavagadh-hill. Being animportant Hindu pilgrimage site, it attracts large number of pilgrimsthroughout the year. It was nominated by UNESCO in 2004 as a worldcultural heritage site. You will then return to Ahmedabad for anovernight stay.

Day 11 - Excursion to Lothal, Modhera Temples and Patan

Lothal was first discovered in 1954.After the the cities Mohenjodaro andHarappa-which were both discovered in the beginnings of 1920--andin the current Pakistan lie the third largest city of theHarappa-civilization . It was developed in the valley of the Indusduring the 3rd century BC and between 2500 and 1500 BC. This culturebuilt one of the first well planned street and sewage systems used ina city. They also developed writing and a measure and weight system.Their art produced figures made of bronze that are interpreted as thefirst images of Gods, whom one meets later in Hinduism.

TheHarappas traded with other high cultures of the time: namelyMesopotamia. It is assumed by the historians that the flooding of theIndus valley and the beginning invasion of warriors called Aryans inaround 1500 BC caused the ruin of this civilization.

Beforereturning to Ahmedabad for your overnight stay, you will visit theModhera temples and Patan.

Day 12 - Ahmedabad - Mumbai

After breakfast, you’ll have time to explore Ahmedabad, known as the“Manchester of the East” and for its textile production. Youlllvisit theAhmedabad Calico-Textile museum and the Sabarmati Ashram,which was center of the Indian freedom movement under Mahatma Gandhi.You’ll have an afternoon transfer to the airport for your flightback to Mumbai.

Day 13 - Mumbai - Aurangabad

In the morning you will be transferred to the airport for flight toAurangabad. Upon your arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.During the afternoon you will have time to visit the monolithic rockcaves in Ellora dating back to 3rd to 8th century AD. This is anotherUNESCO world heritage site in India. The three groups of templesfollow the Buddhist, Hindu and Jain belief. The Kailash temple, whichis dedicated to God Shiva, is the most powerful and largestmonolithic temple in the entire world. You’ll return to your hotelfor an overnight stay.

Day 14 - Excursion to Ajanta Caves

After the breakfast you will visit the Ajanta caves. They are a group of 30caves, that were created around 300 BC. The frescoes inside the cavesshow the life of Buddha. These are the best frescoes in the world andUNESCO has declared them a world culture heritage. The caves werediscovered accidentally in 1819. You will then have an eveningtransfer to the airport for your flight back to Mumbai where you willstay overnight.

Day 15 - Mumbai - Excursion to Elephanta caves

After breakfast,before you fly back home, you will have time to visit the Elephantacaves. You’ll return to your hotel for dinner, and then betransferred to Mumbai international airport for your journey home.
