Even Pushkar’s history is “beautiful”. Thousands of peasants flock to Pushkar with their camels, horses and cattle, and travelers from around the world come to experience the beauty and excitement of the event and town. First the men arrive, and strike their camps in the dunes around the lake. Three days before the full moon the women, draped into their showy clothes, arrive and start singing and dancing in small groups. Their arms are draped with silver, gold and ivory. Their Saris shine in the most colorful, inebriating shades of color.
The “stars” of the animals at the festival are the camels. In addition, you will find at the camel bazaar colorful leather harnesses decorated with brass buttons, small mirrors, and more. At the camel bazaar there are also games of chance, food stands, jugglers, music groups, dance groups and drama groups.
