Chennai/Kolkata - Port Blair - Chennai/Kolkata
Day 1 - Arrive Port Blair
Arrival at Port Blair in the morning and transfer to hotel of your choice. After a short rest, go for excursion of Port Blair. Visit Cellular Jail, Chatham Saw Mill, Forest Museum, Anthropoligical Museum, Fisheries (Marine) Museum, Naval Marine Museum (Smaudrika). Overnight stay in beach resort in Port Blair.
Day 2 - Excursion to Mount Harriet and Corbyn's Cove Beach
After breakfast, go for excursion to Mt. Harriet (365 m high), which is the second highest peak in Andaman. From here go for a trekking to Kalapathar (5 km, moderately difficult), through a nature's trial of exotic flora and fauna, endemic birds and butterflies. In the late Afternoon, go for excursion to Corbyn's Cove Beach (9 km from Port Blair) - a coconut palm fringed beach, ideal for swimming, sun-basking, bathing, snorkeling, scuba diving, etc. Return to hotel in Port Blair for overnight stay.
Day 3 - Excursion to Red Skin and Jolly Buoy Islands
After breakfast excursion to Red Skin and Jolly Buoy Islands by boat (about 50 km from Port Blair). In this fascinating world you can undertake diving, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, sea kayaking, scuba-diving and yet much more. Return to hotel in Port Blair for overnight stay.
Day 4 - Port Blair - Havelock Island
Early morning ( 5.30 am ) departure by inter-island ferry to Havelock Island (57 kms by sea from Port Blair). You stay here in tents on the beach side or in a comfortable beach resort and enjoy the sandy clear beach and lush green forests. Overnight stay at Havelock Island.
Day 5 - Havlock Island - Port Blair
Afternoon return to Port Blair. Arrival and transfer to hotel. Afterwards visit the Andaman Water Sports Complex offering water and adventure sports like water-skiing, speed boats, water scooters, para-sailing, wind-surfing, etc. Overnight stay in Port Blair.
Day 6 - Excursion to Ross Island and Chidiya Tapu
After breakfast make an excursion to Ross Island, the place form where British Government ruled the whole Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Enjoy the nature walk on this island having deers, peacocks and other small animals.
In the afternoon, excursion to Chidiya Tapu (26 km from Port Blair), to see the various species of birds. This island offers lush green mangroves and beautiful beach with breath-taking sunset. Return to hotel in Port Blair for overnight stay.
Day 7
Transfer to airport for the flight to Kolkata or Chennai.
General Information on Andaman Islands
Andaman and Nicobars are a group of 572 islands and islets that spread themselves over a stretch of 700 km like a string of pearls in the bay of Bengal, with an area of 8293 km². Port Blair is the capital and entrance point of Andaman Islands. The largest distance amounts to 7780 km from north to south. The islands (state of India) are very near to Burma (Rangoon), Phuket (Thailand), Malaysia and Sumatra. The islands offer beautiful beaches, best skin diving areas with coral reefs and intersting fauna, historic monuments and forests with various species of birds. For those tourists, who prefer quiet vacation in natural environment, these islands are the ideal whereabouts to relax and to enjoy the nature.
Port Blair, the capital, is a busy city and offers all modern facilities to the traveller. It is an ideal starting point to explore the archipelago.
The Cellular Jail - once a British Jail for the prisoners - illustrates the misery, the condemnations and the injustice, which the Indian freedom fighters had to borne. A Light and Sound show in english language every Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays should remind of the brave patriots of that time.
Museum - The Navy Museum exibhits almost 350 spicies of the marine life. The Antropological museum shows the handicrafts, devices, art objects and arts and crafts of the tribes of this zone.
The Chatham Mill - the largest sawmill in Asia.
Visa : The Andaman islands are accesible for foreign tourists, only after they receive a permission. Tourists recieve a special permission for 30 days on the entry in Port Blair on the Andaman, which is also valid for other accessible islands - Port Blair (Municipal Area), Havelock Island, Long Island, Neil Island, Mayabunder, Diglipur, Rangat (also overnight stay possible) as well as Jolly Bouy, South Cinque, Red Skin, Mount Harriet and Madhuban (only day trips). The Nicobar islands are completely blocked for non-Indian.
Arrival:
By Air: There are daily operating flights from Chennai (Madras) and Kolkata (Calcutta) to Port Blair. The flights takes 2 hours.
By Ship: Regular ship services are available to Port Blair from indian cities of Kolkata (Calcutta), Chennai (Madras), Vishakapatnam (Vizag). They have air-conditioned cabins for first class tourists and an air-conditioned Lounge hall with push back seats for tourist class accommodation. Rates vary according to the type of accommodation as well as the package chosen. Every journey of the ship between Chennai and Port Blair takes 60 hours and between Kolkata and Port Blair 66 hours and between Vishakapatnam and Port Blair 56 hours. The frequency of ship services fro Chennai and Kolkata to Port Blair is about 4 times a month, and from Vishakapatnam once a month.
The Temperatures lie between 23 and 30 degrees centigrade. The rain time is from May to October. The best trip time is from December to April.
